We had the honor and pleasure to transform a beautiful house, which is a monument of culture, in the heart of Sofia city, built in 1922 for Marko Ryaskov – one of the most prominent Bulgarian bankers of the last century. Our concept of transforming the hundred year-old dignified building into Econt Academy, a modern center of the knowledge industry, was inspired by the biography of the first owner. We translated this analogy into the language of interior design, using materials and elements that suggest the theme of money, continuity and business. In the entrance hall, we relied on the natural color of the solid wood, radiating stability and prosperity, in harmony with the imposing staircase. Here is the drink bar, in the design of which safe-deposit boxes are implemented – a discreet reminder of the history of the house. The material of which money is made is also present – metal with its implication of intransience. On the first floor, there are multifunctional halls with options for reorganization – for presentations, for cocktails, for formal dinners, and on the second floor – a library and meeting halls. Warm, soft natural tones prevail, which become brighter on the upper floors as a personification of the upgrade of knowledge. Throughout the house we preserved the original plaster columns, doors and windows, creating functional spaces furnished with furniture that is easy to reorganize and use. On the third floor, there is an office space, which was decidedly exclusively in a modern style, with a sense of energy and dynamism. The milled acoustic panels, as a functional art solution that visualizes the brand’s logo – a running greyhound, also contribute to this
Using skillfully selected details, we were able to preserve the spirit of the old banking house, integrating it into a multifunctional modern interior.
